I’m just having a moment here. I’m just having a moment, I don’t think I’m ok. I hate him. I don’t like hating people but I just put all my hate on him so I don’t have to hate anyone else so I can be a good person, you know to my Grandma, to my friends, to your daughter. That’s all I want to say. I want to tell him to his face that I hate him but he doesn’t even have a face.”

Jesus Christ, this scene. The acting, the emotions, the words, everyone’s reaction. It breaks my heart with how real, haunting and sad this scene is but it’s also brilliantly written and acted and Matt Saracen and the Taylors will forever be my favorites.

Well, next Friday night, I don’t need to tell you, is the biggie. And I’m not the only one saying it could be the biggest game of the season. The moment where this team either gets past the loss of Jason Street and moves forward, or we watch the whole season crumble right before our eyes.

We’ve suffered a big loss. A big loss. Some of you may be scared. And that’s natural. Now, some of you may be really pissed off. One good thing about football is we get to channel that energy. This team has never been about one player. It’s about all of us. Every single one of us. And if we’re gonna come back from this loss, we’re gonna need every one of us. Not one man. Every single one of us. Together.

Right now it’s not really about who wins or loses, Father. We just all wanna be with Street right now, God. We know that you work in mysterious ways and we just wanna send our spirit, our presence, our love just to heal him in whatever way, oh Lord. Whatever might be broke, oh Lord, just fix it right now, Father. Jesus, in your name we pray. Amen.

And all you left behind is a mother with dementia, a divorced wife and a son that delivers pizza. Thank you for coming 100 people I do not know.’ You know what the worst part is? Even if I did get up and say all that I don’t even know if I’m saying it to him because I don’t know what’s in that damn box. It’s a closed casket— might be someone else, someone funnier or a bunch of rocks.”
